Gracies Kitchen
With my granddaughter going from formula to milk and eating more the question is what exactly is she supposed to eat. While the chart above is primarily for children ages 2 to 6 years of age my daughter and other mothers can get an understanding off of it.
To understand a serving here is a chart to go by:
Grain group servings include 1 slice of bread, 1/2 cup of cooked rice or pasta, 1/2 cup of cooked cereal, and 1 ounce of ready to eat cereal. Your child should eat 6 servings from this group.
Vegetable group servings include 1/2 cup of chopped or raw vegetables, or 1 cup of raw leafy vegetables. Your child should eat 3 servings from this group.
Fruit group servings include 1 piece of fruit or melon wedge, 3/4 cup of 100% fruit juice, 1/2 cup of canned fruit, or 1/4 cup of dried fruit. Your child should eat 2 servings from this group.
Milk group servings include 1 cup of milk or yogurt or 2 ounces of cheese. Your child should eat 2 servings from this group.
Meat group servings include 2 to 3 ounces of cooked lean meat, poultry or fish, 1/2 cup of cooked dry beans. You can substitute 2 tablespoons of peanut butter or 1 egg for 1 ounce of meat. Your child should eat 2 servings from this group.
Sample Daily Menu:
Breakfast: 1/2 c cereal, 1/4 c milk, 4 oz orange juice
or
slice toast, 1 T peanut butter and jelly, 4 oz orange juice
Lunch
1/2 sandwich with 1 slice lunch meat and cheese
or
tuna fish sandwich,
or
sliced hotdog
Supper:
1 to 2 oz. chicken or beef, 2-3 T vegetables, bread, 1/2 c milk
couple of small snacks in between meals is also a recomended idea ideas would include milk or juce, 3 T fruit, slice cheese, jello, pudding or yogurt.
They also need juice and milk in their diet to help with their growth.
Hopefully with the ideas that I provided you will get an idea of how much your child is recomended to eat.
