Limirick Day

I enjoy both reading and writing. One fun form of writing is verse form like in limericks. A limerick is often humorous and sometimes obscene. The words are put together in five lines with a strict rhym scheme of AABBA. The first, second and fifth lines all rhyme while the third and fourth lines are shorter with a different rhyme pattern. Here are a few examples.

Limericks first appeared in England in the early 18th century. Edward Lear was the first to popularize the style. George Bernard Shaw did not believe that limerick was a fad and something used for magazine contests. While limericks are still around and wrote for fun both obscene and clean they have not become as popular as other forms of writing
